Our Services

Trap

It all begins with a community member who is feeding free-roaming cats. We call you a “Colony Keeper”. The call to us comes directly from you, the Colony Keeper. Animal Control can refer you to us or you may see our flyers and other information. Big Bend Pets will educate you about how the trapping will be done, leave you with feeding instructions to make it easier on you and the cats, and then schedule the trapping day with you.

Transport

Once we have trapped the free-roaming cat we keep it in a safe place overnight for transport to the veterinarian the following morning on the scheduled surgery day. Once at the veterinarian the cat will get a general health check, the surgery plus the required ear tip, plus a rabies vaccine. We will pick the cat up and keep it overnight to be sure the cat is recovered enough for release and return to its colony.

Return

After a night of recovery, the free-roaming cat is released back outside to their home with the colony keeper. By sterilizing them you are ensuring a healthy life for them! You might see them sleeping a bit longer and not moving as much the first day but no need to worry. The surgery sutures will dissolve and they will not need any further attention. Big Bend Pets will provide a meal when they are released but please be sure you see them again to feed within a few days. We ask Colony Keepers to monitor your community cats and call us if you are concerned.
